First : Let’s talk about recycling
Here we address the current state of our environment, we face our responsibilities and share our views for a more sustainable, ethical and healthy production.
Paper & Cardboard : the first packaging waste
About 40% of all packaging waste is
paper and cardboard.
Paper and cardboard generates more waste than other material : according to EUROSTAT, about 40% of all packaging waste generated in 2021 in Europe is paper and cardboard.
But its recycling rate is the best compared to other packaging materials : it achieved 81,5% recyclablity in 2020.
Plastics : Not yet a circular economy
About 50% of plastic packaging waste are non
recyclable or really hard to recycle.
This score highlights how the plastic economy is not yet circular and how substantial improvements are needed in the recycling chain.
Next : making recycling easier
As packaging manufacturers, we have our share of responsibilities. We see it as an opportunity:
Thanks to our team’s expertise, our close collaboration with our clients and our position in the market, we can make a difference.
HOW WE SEE IT
“We see the catastrophic fires droughts and around the world, the big Asian megalopoles choking under toxic photochemical smogs.
We see ice caps and glaciers melt, we see temperatures reach 50C° in Vancouver and 40C° in London.
We see global warming all across the planet and we know it is man-made.
We also know how global warming impact ocean balances everywhere around the planet, we know without the Gulf Stream which brings us temperate weather and fresh air Europe will just be a toxic dust bowl!
We know we have to do everything in our power to reduce the speed of the global warming, ocean pollution and the ongoing 6th Great Extinction Event of the Planet.
So the only way to see it, is to radically change our strategy, our vision, our culture and our company name.”
Jonathan Schor, Chief Executive Officer
Here’s our plan
Here we address the current state of our environment, we face our responsibilities and share our views for a more sustainable, ethical and healthy production.
Identify obstacles to
packaging recycling
– Contamination of materials
– Lack of proper sorting infrastructure
– Limited recycling facilities
– Low consumer awareness
– Economic challenges like fluctuating demand for recycled materials
Work collectively with our communities
Each year, Atlantique Packaging will allocate up to 5% of its profits to support initiatives and organisations.
Colleagues from each of our plant will select and vote to support local projects, from preserving the Atlantic Ocean and our local environments to helping communities to have a better access to professional training…
Stay tuned for the list of project selected!
If your organisation focuses on environmental protection, particularly coastal areas and packaging waste, or engages in community outreach for recycling awareness, please reach out to us at communication@atlantiquepackaging.com.
Tackle our own production
– Design : reduce weight, size, material used…
– Produce : Invest in chemical-free printers, higher-performance motors, and software to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
– Deliver : With a network of 7 plants in France, 2 in Germany and 1 in Spain, we ensure swift deliveries within short ranges to our European customers.
– Re-Use : The COV emissions from our production are recycled and reused in 2 of our plants.
Other production waste are sold to partners
to be re-valorised into recycled material
that we will use.
Our latest investment in la Haye-du-Puits, France.
It is a replica of our other Flexible site Atlantique Packaging Valencia.
By recycling and reusing the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) emitted during production, we save 200 tones of solvents per year for each site!
Our aim is to replicate this installation across our other sites.
Always seek innovative solutions
Our R&D teams are dedicated to investing in new technologies and developing eco-friendly products, aiming for a circular design that benefits both our customers and the planet.
MONO-MATERIAL DOYPACK (Full PE)
One of our latest achievements is the incorporation of BOPE* and MDO** into the currently non-recyclable structures, transforming them into fully recyclable mono-material Full PE packagings.
*Biaxially Oriented Polyethylene
**Machine Direction Orientation
